So I did and by my sophomore year I had finally made it. I knew that I was not the best person on the team but that did not stop me from trying my best. I was a digger or libero, which is a person in the back row who gets the low balls and gives them to the setter. I was happy that I was in the back row because I was not tall enough to be in the front.
Practicing and being better was very important to me. Our coaches drove that into our heads that if you want to be better at something then you need to give it your all and PRACTICE!
After my sophomore year I ended up quitting Volleyball. My reasons where not because I was not good enough; it was because of how the coaches were. But I focused my attention on school after that.
In order to survive this year as a freshman at Iowa State I plan on doing the best I can in order to get good grades and a good GPA. I was taught that practice makes perfect from my Volleyball experience. I was taught that studying can really help you out in the long run. If I apply these two skills (studying and practicing) to my everyday life at ISU then I know that I will succeed and do my "best" here.
That's a great plan. I plan on doing the same to make it through my freshman year also.
ReplyDeleteSports have a way of teaching us skills that we can use in our other aspects of life it seems. Keep to the studying and practicing and im sure ur year will go great.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Scott. We learn things we don't expect to learn. Sports can have their disappointing or hard moments, but if you work at it you can make it through. With study and practice it will be easier to get through the rough times.
ReplyDeleteThat is very well said, Jessi, if you want some you have to go get it by practice, practice, practice. Keep on them studies!
ReplyDeletePractice makes perfect, right?! I learned so much through sports. Just like your volleyball coach said to practice practice practice....now you just have to study study study!!
ReplyDeleteNice strategy and I am sure you will do great in college!!
ReplyDeleteThats the stradegy im shooting for, its hard but i know you can do it
ReplyDeletePracticin will always pay off sooner or later, and even though you quit, you still had other important things in mind such as school wor. Way to go !
ReplyDeleteMaking it through the first year of college will be hard. I hope to use this same method to get through it.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great example of success through practice. Practice does make perfect! And I understand where you're coming from with the coaches, sometimes no matter what you do, the people who have the control wont give you any credit. It's good to learn from these experiences. You'll do great this year!
ReplyDeleteIt takes a lot just to get where we are today, and it wasn't easy or anything, we actually had to work for it. Practice does make perfect and there's no getting around that...
ReplyDeleteSounds like you have a great game plan on how to be successful at college.
